In a place every black girl like me has dreamed of...

A place where my mom said one day if I was

lucky I could date a man like that....you know the

type. Church going, active in his community,

Graduated from a HBCU ALL "Q" and the

conversations....

He would look at me with so much

interest as talked about Black History, Politics,

music, spirituality. He was vegan, and I was like a

vegan, In Texas, in the 90's?!!

I mean who could ask for Anything More ....

But. I didn't ask. In fact I froze...

Trying to figure out why my 5ft frame

Couldn't run from his 6.4 250lbs stature.

I mean... we were chillin watching a Long Kiss

Goodnight eating Vegetarian pizza and said he

would be right back and when I looked up....he

naked.

His eye now void of seeing the fear,

confusion, and please to Please. STOP. DONT.

Don't take this dream and turn it into a nightmare on a

continuous loop of his Brand, my tears, his sweat.

With noone to tell about this "Good Man".... I just

want to WAKE UP!!!

In a place every black girl like me has dreamed of a

place where the truth Rolls off my pen to my tongue

like healing waters becoming a roaring wave

breaking the dam of shame and secrecy. Raising my

hand and screaming ME TOO!

I see you and you can see me...and together we

Reclaim Our Sweetest Dreams Yet to Come.
